Edgerton Retirement Apartments

Edgerton Retirement Apartments (ERA) is a 24-unit rural property located in the small town of Edgerton, WI.  It was built in 1983 using Rural Development (RD) funding on land donated by a local hospital.  The property serves vulnerable seniors and those with disabilities and keeps rents affordable to extremely low-income individuals.

Sunny Side Development was approached the longtime property managers of ERA, Broihahn Management and Consulting, in the summer of 2020, who requested help in securing funds for needed rehabilitation. Sunny Side got to work and secured grants from Rock County HOME, FHLBank - Chicago's Affordable Housing Program, and the USDA Rural Development.  Construction started in spring of 2024 and completed in spring of 2025.

Renovation included updating all units with new kitchens and bathrooms, and greatly increased accessibility. The project also installed a new roof and updated common spaces. A new heat pump HVAC system, and a solar PV system funded by a generous grant from Solar for Good, support cost savings that directly benefit the low-income residents.

ERA's community room is great for potlucks.  The common kitchen will become fully ADA accessible as a result of this rehabilitation.
