ReJenerate Housing Cooperative

ReJenerate Housing Cooperative is an affordable housing cooperative and 501(c)3 nonprofit that will create missing-middle housing in one of the most quickly gentrifying areas in Madison—the Marquette Neighborhood. This will be the first co-op financed by conventional affordable housing funding, having received awards from the FHLBank Chicago, the City of Madison CDD, and the United Way Foundation.

The project consists of two adjacent buildings, a 2-flat and 3-flat, located at 909 and 915 Jenifer St. The parcels were legally combined and the buildings’ basements physically connected underground. Construction of an addition behind the smaller of the two buildings, 909 Jenifer, is nearing completion as of Spring 2024.

When construction is complete, the property will have a total of 15 units: 11 SRO units and a 2BR, 3BR, 4BR and 5BR, housing approximately 25 people. A large commercial kitchen and ample common space will facilitate shared meals and cooperative governance. Three units (20%) will be reserved for homeless young adults ages 18-24, which will be kept at 30% AMI and receive supportive services and rent subsidy from Briarpatch Youth Services. Three units (20%) will be reserved for disabled residents, with two being fully ADA accessible. Three electric vehicles will be shared cooperatively by those wishing to opt-in to the driving plan.
