Red Pine Co-op
Red Pine, on the banks of the Yahara River, has operated cooperatively since 1981. In 2024, Red Pine members along with the house's long-time owner, Chris, worked with Sunny Side Development to achieve two major goals. First, to transfer to Red Pine Co-op to cooperative ownership, ensuring member control and affordable rents in perpetuity. Second, to improve the livability of the house by fully insulating and refinishing the front room, converting a couple of underutilized rooms to bedrooms, upgrading mechanicals, and making structural and code improvements.
As a Sunny Side project, it wouldn't be complete without the 10.9 kW solar array in the backyard.
Major sources of funding include debt from LEAF and the City of Madison Affordable Housing Fund.
Renovation began Winter 2025/2026, and will be completed in Fall 2026.
